East Trenchers offers specialized services to companies operating in the infrastructure sector. In particular, East Trenchers provides technical services for engineering and the environment, specializing in instrumental surveys on infrastructures through the execution of topographic surveys, drone photogrammetry, classic and mobile LIDAR surveys, and geophysical prospecting, with specific expertise in GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) investigations. Additionally, East Trenchers offers data processing services for georadar and photogrammetric data acquired by TESMEC clients. Furthermore, the company provides rental and post-rental services for Tesmec Trenchers and Rock Hawgs, catering to those involved in road and hydraulic construction, railway tunnels, aqueducts, pipelines, public sewers, large-scale earthworks, removal of ground aggregates, and all activities related to excavation work.
The problem
To date, the localization and classification activities of utilities and buried objects supporting excavation operations are largely conducted by a human operator, who relies on images and data provided by software following a Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) scan of the area to be excavated. The duration and accuracy of the operation depend heavily on the operator’s experience. In order to reduce this dependence and optimize the process, there is a need to develop an AI-based software system capable of automating much of the process, thereby making the operator’s work more efficient, involving them only in value-added activities.
